Things that were not possible:
1.When the kids and Grandma Ruth were walking through the ash fall they would have been suffocated or at least have more ash covering their bodies.
2. The lava flow would have come down faster when they were on the mountain.
3.Most people are not able to escape the pyro clastic cloud, but they were probably just because they were the stars of the movie and they shouldn't die because the movie would be less interesting.
4.It would have been very difficult to drive through a lahar
Things that were possible:
1. Lava can break through hotsprings
2.You can tell a volcano is going to erupt when trees and animals die.
3. The towns water can turn acidic.
